The Editing Process Explained

What is Copy & Line Editing?
Copy Editing is the process of reviewing a manuscript to make sure the text is correct and free of grammatical and factual errors. A copy editor’s role involves checking for consistency and accuracy, ensuring that the idea the writer wishes to portray is clear and easy to understand.
Line editing is a more in-depth version of copy editing, one that focuses on style as well. Line editors will comb through a document sentence by sentence and look closely at a writer’s word choice, making sure the language is both clear and effective.
As part of our editing services, we offer both a copy and line edit, carefully reading your text line by line to fix any issues they find, such as:
-
- Mechanics (spelling, grammar, punctuation)
- Word choice
- Clarity
- Style and consistency
- Fact-checking
- Formatting

What is Proofreading?
Proofreading is the final step in the editorial process. Once a manuscript has been corrected by a copy or line editor, laid out and designed, a proofreader will comb through the text and look for any mistakes that may have slipped through the cracks.
A proofreader will check a document for minor text and formatting errors and confirm the material is ready to be published.
Two Edit Package
We offer a combined package which involves an initial and final edit of your book.
To begin the editing process, we provide an in-depth copy and line edit, checking both the mechanics as well as the overall style and consistency, technical accuracy, and formatting. Once a manuscript has been corrected by our editors, laid out and designed, we will follow up with a proofread of the text, looking for any mistakes that may have been missed.
